NEA Young Entrepreneurs (NEA-YE) is a sub committee of the National Entrepreneurs Association created to engage and empower young entrepreneurs under 40. The group meets regularly for networking, mentoring and training to learn the skills necessary to succeed in business. In addition, NEA-YE hosts an annual event each year led by some of the top speakers and trainers of their generation. The goal of the group is for young entrepreneurial leaders to share best practices, lead by example and learn skills that support longevity in business. NEA Mission Statement.
About Us
Dr. Eddie Connor
Chair of NEA-YE
Dr. Eddie Connor is a best-selling author, international speaker, college professor, radio/TV correspondent, and conference host of Vision Summit. He is a survivor of stage 4 cancer and empowers people to overcome obstacles. Dr. Connor serves as the President of the National Entrepreneurs Association of Michigan. As an author of 11 best-selling books, Dr. Connor has been featured in national media. He was featured in the acclaimed BET documentary, It Takes a Village to Raise Detroit. He also stars in the movie, Lady Luck…Too. Dr. Connor is the founder of the mentoring program, Boys 2 Books, which empowers young males via literacy, leadership, and life skills enrichment. The program became the impetus for President Barack Obama's, My Brother's Keeper initiative. Dr. Connor is a recipient of The President Barack Obama Volunteer Service Award and The President Barack Obama Lifetime Achievement Award from The White House. He is recognized as one of the Top 35 Millennial Influencers in America and listed in the Top 100 Leaders in Who's Who in Black Detroit.
Marcus Jackson
Chair of NEA-YE
Marcus Jackson is the Community Development Relationship Manager for Southeastern Michigan at CIBC Bank USA, a division that specializes in businesses with annual revenues up to $1,000,000. He is responsible for lending to small businesses. In addition to his lending responsibilities, he is also responsible for partnering with various community organizations in the Tri- County area. Marcus has over 7 years of experience in providing financial service expertise to small business owners. Marcus received a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and is currently pursuing his MBA with a concentration in International Business and Finance at Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business. He is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Co-ed Professional Business Fraternity, as well as Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. In addition to working and serving the community, Marcus also serves as Treasurer for both the Wayne County CRA Association in Michigan and the National Entrepreneurs Association.
Candice Smith
Event Organizer of NEA-YE
Detroit native, Candice ”Pretty Stringz” Smith, began playing the violin at nine years old. She graduated from the Detroit School of Arts. While at the Detroit School of Arts, she studied privately with a Detroit Symphony Orchestra member. Recognized as a versatile artist, her well-rounded talent has provided her the opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall, NBA Pistons half-time performance, in the Restored Me movie soundtrack and the Matthew Barney Film: River of Fundament. Furthermore, she has had the opportunity to open for artist such as: Marvin Sapp, Vickie Winans, Rick Ross and Day 26. Pretty Stringz has been seen on Fox 2 “On the nine”, WDIV “Music in the D”, Michigan Chronicle, Freep News and many more. Candice continued her education at Florida A&M University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music. She earned a Master of Social Sciences with a concentration in Public Administration. She is an internationally renowned violinist, educator, entrepreneur and founder of an after-school program. Her single "Mirrors" is now streaming on all digital platforms.
