Conference Agenda

As founder and CEO of Walker-Miller Energy Services (WMES), Carla Walker-Miller is a savvy entrepreneur and a visionary leader determined to change lives through energy. With decades of energy industry leadership, her 18-year old, values driven Detroit-based firm creates and manages customized energy waste reduction programs that help electric and gas utilities, meet mandated energy savings goals.

An engineer by education, Carla earned the respect of energy industry colleagues during her 18 years in the large utility equipment manufacturing sector. In 2000, she used her industry expertise to launch WMES, a non-stocking distributorship for medium and high voltage utility equipment, with average annual revenues of more than $10 million through 2009. During the economic collapse, she pivoted to energy efficiency, a growth industry, and lead her business to double-digit growth, earning both local and national recognition as a scrappy, innovative company to watch. Since 2014, her firm has experienced more than 700% revenue growth and operates in three states.

As a proud Detroit booster, Carla champions issues related to utility affordability and the intentional recruitment, training and employment of black Detroit residents.

If Broadway called today, Tisha Hammond would take flight to center stage. Until then, you can find Tisha Hammond on stages discussing economic empowerment, shifting gears from Employee to Employer, and the art of influencing legislators and decision makers. She is affectionately known as “The Small Business Cheerleader”. In between stage and online video appearances, Tisha is a writer whose creative content is found in Career Mastered Magazine. There's a special place in her heart for young entrepreneurs and she serves them as a Director on the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) EXCEL Board and in a joint business venture famously known as "Big Girl Panties Juniors." She anticipates the launch of her first book and tour in 2019.

Taking lessons learned from a 21-year career in law enforcement and civil rights advocacy, before taking the leap in April 2018 to work for herself full-time, Tisha Hammond has found her niche with entrepreneurs and executives who are prepared to transition from W-2 wages to unlimited income opportunities. Her "Let Me Tell You What I Wish I'd Known" discussion series is truly her signature. Offstage, Tisha enjoys playing muse for her husband Ken (a professional photographer) and celebrating family time with their five children and two grand princesses. Her favorite author is Dr. Dennis Kimbro and she is doing her best to also leave footprints for success and legacy wealth. Tisha is a Hamilton: An American Musical fanatic and requires frequent forgiveness for breaking out in random show tunes.
